Do you drink alcohol or use drugs, either prescription or non-prescription? Probably not too many people in Western society would say no to that question. And that’s perfectly all right. What’s not okay is when dependence or addiction occurs. People whom you know to be dependent on alcohol and/or drugs would probably deny, sometimes quite vociferously, that they have a problem with substances.

Below are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you are in need of an alcoholism treatment program or opiate detox, which simply refers to cleansing your body and brain of the addictive substance in many narcotic pain killers. Be honest in your answers, since no one else will see them.

1. Have you ever gotten high when you were by yourself?
2. Have you ever utilized prescription medications, either yours or someone else’s, to
make yourself high?
3. Have you stopped doing some things because you’re either too high or too drunk?
4. Do you use alcohol or other drugs on a daily basis?
5. Do you have money problems resulting from your drug or alcohol use?
6. Has your drug or alcohol use caused you to miss any work or school?
7. Do you surround yourself with friends who engage in drug or alcohol use daily?
8. Have you ever attempted to discontinue drug or alcohol usage but couldn’t?
9. Do you seek out drugs or alcohol upon first getting up in the morning?
10. Have you ever regretted your actions while high or drunk?
11. Have you ever experienced memory loss while drinking or using drugs?
12. Have family or friends ever tried to talk to you about your drug or alcohol use?

Answering yes to any of the above questions can be indicative of an addiction or dependency problem. The more yes’s you gave, the more serious the problem, and the sooner you should seek help.

Sometimes your genetic makeup predisposes you to drug or alcohol abuse. Even so, environmental factors still have to trigger that predisposition for it to develop into a full-blown addiction or dependence. Stress plays a large role in these environmental factors, as do the quality of your childhood interactions with your parents.

Our alcoholism treatment program and opiate detox get at the heart of the dependency/addiction and don’t just treat the symptoms. Often people with substance abuse issues are also plagued by low self-esteem and other mental health issues such as depression. Since alcohol is a depressant, using it while you’re already feeling down only worsens your depression.

If you are motivated enough to get back control of your life, be sure to try our program. We know how to help you with the most effective treatment methods based on the latest scientific evidence and studies.
